The new Postgraduate Certificate in International Education (PGCiE)

This brand-new course at Bath is one to watch.

Lasting up to two years, it’s a part-time course suited to students who already have teaching experience and wish to progress their career with a postgraduate-level qualification.

Designed to provide significant insight into the latest trends and leading-edge research, also discussing how they impact policy and practice in the context of international education, it can prepare you for that next step in your career.

You’ll also have the flexible choice to study this course through any combination of on-campus lessons through the Bath Summer School, at one of their global study centres or by online distance learning.

Opening for entry from September 2019, you can explore this new course here.

MA English as a Medium of Instruction

Gain specialist knowledge and practical skills for the teaching of academic subjects in English with the new English as a Medium of Instruction MA.

Sometimes referred to as English-medium teaching or bilingual education, this degree is seen as a crucial aspect of helping institutions internationalise their offerings and prepares students for a globalised job market.

MA Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

You can also opt for the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) MA to enhance your employability in a range of fields and develop appropriate teaching methods and materials to understand how English is taught.

MA International Education and Globalisation

Then there’s the full-time International Education and Globalisation MA course. Offering a distinctive focus on bridge-building between practice and theory, it enables you to make a significant future contribution to international education.

Part-time MA Education

Alternative study pathways at Bath include the Education MA – 2 to 5 years part-time distance learning, which allows the greatest flexibility in the choice of your units and dissertation topic. Students can choose from four different study pathways to focus their learning where they want to develop:

  • MA Education
  • MA Education (International Education)
  • MA Education (Learning and Teaching)
  • MA Education (Educational Leadership and Management)

Education Master of Research (MRes) courses

For the Master of Research route (MRes) you can choose a course that lasts one year. Starting in September 2019 and ending in 2020, the Education MRes – 1 year full-time degree prepares you for doctoral-level work and provides a stand-alone qualification in social science research.

However, the Education MRes – 2 years part-time also offers similar components but starts in September 2019 and ends in 2021.

Both courses allow you to spend a short period of time shadowing an experienced researcher and place you in a preferred research group within the Department of Education; which will have seminar and reading group activities you can join.

Overall, every Bath international education course offers students the chance to develop their knowledge of the latest trends and leading-edge research progressions in the global education sphere.

By challenging the purposes, practices and functions of education in different contexts and exploring how young children and adolescents learn and develop, you’ll attain a fresh perspective on education in contemporary society, both globally and in the UK.

After investing in your study of international education and completing a professional qualification at the University of Bath, you’ll inevitably surpass the expectations of employers and the personal aspirations you set for yourself before the course begins.
