4 celebs who were honoured with degrees

Summer is in full bloom, which means the end of the road for College kids across the globe. After three long years (or more), it’s time to pack away the memories, and scrub off that sticky residue that’s been oozing from the walls since that last messy student shindig. It was a wild ride, and now it’s time to join the rat race…but not before the final blow out because it’s graduation season, baby!

[[nid:1037231]]Earlier this year, a well-known public figure (and world famous big-head) set sail upon the graduation cruise far sooner than us mere mortals. Of course I’m talking about Kanye, who was celebrating back in May after receiving an honorary Doctoral degree from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. If anyone can achieve a degree without attending a single class, of course it would be the man who is “more influential than GOD” , but what other influential VIPs have been honoured by Universities?

1. Sean “Diddy” Combs- P. Diddy is positively dripping with swagger after topping off his Wall of Fame with a Doctorate. In May 2014, Diddy was honoured with a Doctorate of Humanities from Howard University, Washington DC. Combs was once a Business major at Howard, but he left in 1990 after two years of study. Diddy’s former school chose to honour him twenty four years later, since his “entrepreneurial spirit was sparked at Howard.”

Howard University is a private, research University composed of 13 schools and colleges. It was founded in 1867, and since that time, has awarded more than 120,000 degrees in the arts, sciences and humanities.

2. J.K Rowling- In 2008, our favourite pen-wielding muggle was honoured with a Doctor of Letters degree from Harvard University, Cambridge USA. Considering the final Potter instalment sold 11 million copies the first day it was released, it’s not surprising that she was chosen to be honoured by one of the world’s most prestigious Universities. It seems that Harvard were not the only University to share this sentiment, because Rowling has actually received six honorary degrees from six different Universities!

Harvard is one of eight Universities’ that form the US Ivy League. This means it is renowned for its rich history and provision of outstanding education.

3. Kylie Minogue- In 2001, the Aussie style icon and derriere royalty was honoured with a Doctorate of Health Science from Anglia Ruskin University in Essex. She was 43 at the time, and was awarded in recognition of her work promoting breast cancer awareness after battling the illness herself. Kylie was diagnosed in 2005, and used her fame as a platform to boost cancer awareness. She became a global sweetheart- not that we didn’t love her enough after 20 year career and 35 top ten hits!

4. Kermit the Frog (AKA Dr Frog)- In 1996, our favourite Muppet was honoured with a Doctorate of Amphibious Letters from Southampton College, New York. Two years after his recognition, Kermit gave a speech to 1,000 students at the Oxford union, and is the only Amphibian to have reached such esteemed levels of Academia. His plea for fellow students to “go green” has made him a role model to man and frog alike.
