5 ways Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy helps students find their calling

Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy (CHCA) nurtures an environment where students develop into leaders within the classroom and throughout their lives. They believe each student is unique and possesses inherent gifts. Through personalised education and countless opportunities, CHCA challenges and inspires students to explore, develop, and leverage these gifts to become impactful individuals.

Here, students are encouraged to question, experiment, and even fail, all under the guidance of Christian teachers and through engaging hands-on experiences. This holistic approach equips students to flourish academically and as well-rounded individuals prepared for life beyond the classroom walls.

The best part? CHCA boasts a low student-to-faculty ratio of 12:1 that ensures each student receives personalised attention and support from their teachers, empowering them to reach their full potential.

At CHCA, students can do and be more than they ever imagined. Below are five ways Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy helps students do just that:

Entrepreneurship & Sustainability Programme

Through the Entrepreneurship and Sustainability Programme, CHCA equips students with the skills and mindset to become successful entrepreneurs.

Going beyond traditional classroom learning, the programme fosters real-world problem-solving through hands-on experiences. Students gain valuable leadership skills and develop a growth mindset, becoming business owners, visionary problem-solvers, and innovative thinkers.

Through 12 elective courses and a capstone project, students can earn a “CHCA Entrepreneurship and Sustainability Certificate,” recognised by many universities. This journey is guided by five dedicated faculty members and allows students to put their learnings into practice through five student-run businesses, including the Teaching Kitchen, Leaning Eagle Coffee Bar, and the Eagle Farms, establishing an entrepreneurial spirit and preparing them for future success.

Student Organised Service

CHCA students discover the true meaning of their learning through community service. This core principle drives the Student Organized Service (SOS) programme, where students are encouraged to identify and share their unique talents with others.

Here, real-world learning extends beyond textbooks. It involves applying one’s strengths to benefit the community. An aspiring teacher might tutor, lead an after-school math club, or help build a culture of learning at a local school. A future entrepreneur could manage renovations at non-profit, honing leadership skills while making a tangible difference. The programme encourages individual growth and strengthens bonds between students, regardless of background, as they work together towards a common goal.

Over 30 student-led SOS groups, driven by more than 50 passionate leaders, tackle issues they care about. From tutoring underprivileged children to advocating for racial justice, these groups find solutions through peer education, creative fundraising, volunteering, and relationship building.

Their dedication has earned them numerous accolades, including the Presidential Service Award, the Prudential Spirit of the Community Award, and the ServeOhio Community Impact Award.

Technology-focused facilities

CHCA students benefit from facilities such as the Lindner Theater, a 513-seat venue that has a state-of-the-art technology, a grand piano, and dedicated performance spaces. Beyond artistic pursuits, the Lindner Theater is a hub for campus events and chapels.

CHCA’s forward-thinking approach extends beyond facilities. Embracing the “beginning with the end in mind” philosophy, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) is woven into the CHCA experience, equipping students with vital 21st-century skills. The Robotics programme is central to CHCA’s STEAM initiative, fostering design thinking in students as early as third grade.

Through classroom instruction and extracurricular activities, students engage with various robotics platforms like WonderWorkshop, LEGO, and FIRST. Under the guidance of teachers, coaches, and industry mentors, they bridge the gap between theory and practice, developing into innovative problem-solvers, empowered learners, and responsible digital citizens.

Experiential learning opportunities

CHCA prioritises experiential learning beyond the classroom walls. Their Intersession programme offers diverse experiences, from historical exploration in Rome’s Colosseum to cultural immersion through music in Kenya or scientific discovery in Alaska. These go beyond traditional sightseeing, enabling personal growth and a deeper understanding of the world.

Students select from various options, including international travel and service, cultural exploration, local service projects, and skill development in various fields. For nearly two decades, CHCA students have participated in over 350 Intersession experiences, broadening their perspectives and reshaping their worldviews — something an   can attest to. “We learned about the Parthenon in class. But when I travelled to Greece, I saw firsthand how architecture is really all about the country’s people. Their architecture contains their history.”

A wealth of athletics options

Offering a diverse range of athletics from soccer and swimming to tennis, CHCA caters to individual passions while nurturing a sense of community.

One example is Arthur , an international student who decided to play sports because it’s a great way to meet new friends. Arriving with years of soccer experience, he found the American game emphasised teamwork and collaboration, fostering a sense of belonging. “Playing soccer has taught me how to be a leader in other areas of life,” he says.

CHCA’s sports programme empowers students like Arthur, cultivating athletic prowess and well-rounded individuals ready to reach their full potential.
