Ulster University encapsulates the spirit of Northern Ireland; it’s an innovative university that fast becomes a second-home for students, who benefit from a first-class education and state-of-the-art facilities.

Set against the backdrop of awe-inspiring scenery, including countless Game of Thrones locations, students here experience the very best of both worlds, with an electric social scene to accompany some of the world’s most beautiful sights.

The Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment spearheads the innovative nature of Ulster, offering cutting-edge research at the forefront of the computing and data analysis industry. A series of strong industry partnerships in both teaching and research has also helped nurture excellent employment opportunities for graduates.

With new, sophisticated algorithms, and complex analytics, many companies are not capturing the full potential value from data because they don’t have the required expertise.  The MSc Data Science course at Ulster prepares students for the highest level of data analysis, making them an invaluable asset to their future employer.

The MSc Data Science degree at Ulster is a one-year intensive course, targeted at highly motivated graduates with a good honour’s degree in computing, engineering or a related discipline.

Beyond university, there is high demand for skills in data acquisition, analysis, information and knowledge extraction – all of which will be tackled during your course.

Students will typically complete six modules on the MSc programme; including, Business Intelligence, Data Validation and Visualisation, Machine Learning and Data Modelling, Data Science Foundations, Big Data and Infrastructure, and Statistical Modelling and Data Mining.

The Faculty places a focus on real-world learning to ensure students can apply their knowledge and skills in the workplace post-graduation. Upon completion of the six modules, students undertake an independent research project as part of the Masters programme, where they will use their newfound skills to provide a solution to a complex data problem.

Completion of the MSc Data Science course opens doors to a successful career as a data scientist or business analyst in any profession where large datasets are collected. Skills learned are typically in high demand in IT business, security and health sectors, intelligent transport, energy efficiency and the creative industries.

Continuing with the theme of innovation, Ulster University also offers a Master of Science course on the latest technological phenomenon, the Internet of Things. This one-year specialist Masters programme, preparing students for a career in networks, sensor technologies and data analytics. The variety of skills learned on this course are in high demand with those working on Smart Cities, industrial IoT, Connected Health and Smart Homes.

The future success of students is of paramount importance to the Faculty, who support students in securing professional employment locally, nationally and globally. This can be seen through the 94 percent of graduates who find themselves in employment or further study within six months of completing their studies.
