Glasgow Uni student wins prizes worth £14,000 in just 5 months

A first year student from the University of Glasgow claims to have won £14,000 worth of prizes in just five months.

Nineteen-year-old Chloe Bingham, originally from Islington, was the envy of all her student friends when she revealed her love of ‘Comping’ (the practice of entering competitions, especially those promoting consumer products) had won her the hefty prize, which included £10,000 to put towards her tuition fees.

Writing for student publication The Tab, Bingham noted she had been comping since the age of 11, her first win being the Silentnight Book at Bedtime Short Story competition back in 2008. She has since claimed £14,000 worth of awards, including a state-of-the-art Student Technology Bundle (alongside the cash prize for fees) from a Currys PC World Snapchat competition which saw her recreate a Harry Potter scene using glove puppets.

Chloe describes how comping soon become a much-loved hobby, and reports spending up to two hours a day entering online competitions. The student notes that one entry can take just 20-seconds, thanks to the useful autofill tool.

Between the months of August and December in 2015, Bingham claimed a total of 42 prizes, including weekend camping tickets for V Festival worth £400 and a night out for her and her friends at a high-end Glasgow nightclub.

The student told the Daily Record that last October was her least successful month, but even then she took home around £400 worth of prizes. “Normally I try and win specific things – things I think will be useful or things I enjoy like unique experiences,” she said.

The student told the Record that she depends “on the fact that students are quite lazy”, adding, “I thought the level of entries would be quite low – so even though I’m not that artistic, I still entered anyway.”
