Holistic and fun learning environment for early learners

Bevendean is the Pre-Preparatory day school of Danes Hill School in Oxshott, Surrey, England. Here, early learners aged rising three to six enjoy a fun and welcoming environment where they can explore and grow confidently.

Danes Hill is situated on 55 acres of lush landscaped grounds, pupils here benefit from a broad and balanced curriculum that helps them develop valuable skills to become lifelong learners and independent adults.

They are exposed to all kinds of activities that provide valuable hands-on learning opportunities, whether on the school campus or through off-site visits.

As children learn most effectively when they are engaged, the school environment is built around a fun and exciting learning structure that allows them to enjoy the ‘Early Years’ experience.

School facilities provide plenty of opportunities for outdoor learning, encouraging children to learn through play and understand the world around them. For example, they can enjoy playing on an outdoor adventure pirate ship and go on weekly visits to the Paddock for Forest School. They also have access to the school’s heated swimming pool, music suite, IT room, and library.

There are also state-of-the-art computer facilities so children here will learn to get comfortable with technology from a young age.

There’s always something for them to look forward to, as there are numerous fun events going on all year-round. Kids are immersed and involved in events such as harvest festivals, Open Days, carol services, theatre productions, and sports days.

Children are fully taken care of by the outstanding and caring teaching staff, and also enjoy a nutritious breakfast every day at the school.

Supporting individual learning styles

Understanding that all pupils learn in different ways, teaching is tailored to individual requirements of each child.

As an inclusive school, each student is provided with individual opportunities so they can achieve their potential.

Pupils also benefit from an ideal pupil-teacher ratio so everyone has sufficient personalised attention. There is also a full-time assistant in each class.

For those in need of additional support, there is a dedicated team of specialist teachers who provide assistance to overcome any hurdles.

The school also operates an EAL programme to provide support for children who are not native English speakers.

There is a strong emphasis on multi-sensory learning at Bevendean; the school is dedicated to developing strategies and methods that encourage independent learning across the curriculum. Plus, the structured formal learning at the school encourages development of the pupils’ social and interpersonal skills.

The holistic learning structure means that the pupils are engaged in every learning aspect, from language development to numeracy, with science, language, music, drama, and physical activities embedded in the curriculum.

Languages are a big focus at the school, following the philosophy that language development is best cemented from an early age.

Pupils are encouraged to develop an awareness of the fundamentals of French through weekly sessions that incorporate music, games, and puppetwork.

Parents who have sent their children to Bevendean speak highly of the school as they watch their kids develop to their full potential.

One said, “From the moment my children arrived at Bevendean, they have been guided through their first few school years with care, patience and understanding; by the truly amazing staff. The teachers have recognised their strengths and weaknesses and have helped them develop into well rounded individuals. What an amazing start to their school journey.”
