Live, learn, and discover your independence at LVS Ascot

Rectangle, Font

At LVS Ascot, students between the ages of 4 and 18 are living, learning, playing, and exploring their way to independence. You could find them in the Infant & Junior School, in the Senior School or in one of many Sixth Form classrooms — all of which are governed by one principal. This ensures its community remains as tight-knit as it has always been since the independent, co-educational school was founded in 1803.

In LVS Ascot’s boarding facilities, designed to emulate a vibrant home away from home, boys and girls develop physically, spiritually, intellectually, morally, socially, and emotionally. Cocooned in a positive, multicultural and encouraging atmosphere, they have all they need to embrace the challenges of the future. International students get extra support in the form of tailored English-Language (EAL) tuition with the breadth and depth of learning for which British schools are famed. Each boarder has their bed, lockable safes or drawers, wardrobe and shoe racks.

In LVS Ascot’s classrooms, young students follow a curriculum devised from its Learning Values and Skills. The goal is to equip students with the tools to succeed in school and beyond. These Learning Values and Skills — Curiosity and Creativity, Resilience and Risk-taking, Empathy and Reflection, Initiative and Independence, Collaboration and Self-confidence — provide children with every opportunity to develop their character as well as their academic, sporting, and artistic talents.

confirms School Principal Christine Cunniffe.

“Our thriving school will support your child to reach their full potential and become confident individuals inside and outside the classroom. Our goal is for your child to be happy, safe, and secure in our wonderful environment of which I am extremely proud to be principal.”

History and heritage

LVS Ascot has been educating boys and girls since 1803, when the first Licensed Victualler’s School was set up in Kennington, London. In 1836, it was granted a Royal Charter and Her Majesty the Queen continues to be a Patron of LVS Ascot to this day.

This long, illustrious history lends more than just credibility. It attracts the best of families all over the world. Graduates are recruited by top universities. All of this allows LVS Ascot to grow strength in strength in providing a “caring and challenging education,” now and into the future.

Every time there’s a chance for me to represent the school, I’m always there. People help one another. We make sure everyone succeeds, if one person falls, we all fall. When one person rises, we all rise.

Boarding activities and events help us form a larger family. Home teachers give us great support and love us like our own family. Overall, I would like to say that the boarding at LVS is amazing.
Nga
I think boarding at LVS is so warm. Everyone is willing to help me. They will give me unlimited support.
Hanna
I am grateful to have met such great people here who can understand me despite the different mother tongues. Above all, they want to understand me. I can recommend LVS Ascot with ease and without hesitation because I am sure that everyone can feel comfortable here.

Students prepare for their GCSEs in small, focused classes. In these crucial years, student-teacher interaction is important. There is plenty of this in LVS Ascot’s classrooms, enriching the vast array of GCSE subjects offered here, which include Business Studies, Chemistry, Media Studies, Computer Science, French and more. Senior School students can also choose from a suite of co-curriculars to enhance the experience — be it in debate, public speaking, foreign film club, or even mindfulness.

Students in Sixth Form can opt to study both A Level and BTEC qualifications in preparation for college or university. With an extensive offering of subjects to choose from, young adults can enhance the skills they developed during their GCSEs or try something new altogether — perhaps by taking on lessons in politics, textiles, or even law.

At this point, they will also be able to volunteer at LVS Ascot Junior School and other local Junior Schools and learn more about the UCAS application process. Of course, undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh award or an Extended Project Qualification is also possible — both of which do an excellent job at sharpening research and presentation skills.

Students in the Junior School build on foundational knowledge. Following the National Curriculum, they study English, Maths, Science, Humanities (History and Geography), ICT, Music, Dance, Religious Education, Philosophy and PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education).

Most are taught through LVS Ascot’s themed learning approach to the curriculum. Using an enquiry-based method of learning, this ensures that all the subjects link together to allow for contextual learning to take place.

When the pandemic struck, LVS Ascot adapted quickly. Every pupil proceeded with a full timetable of taught lessons. Lessons were even ahead of its syllabus.

Boarding

Students aged eight and above are welcome to stay at LVS Ascot’s oustanding, full-time and flexi boarding facilities — especially those interested in gaining fresh cultural prespectives. The school’s boarding community is as diverse as it is connected. Every background is celebrated and varying social needs are catered to, thanks to an approachable faculty dedicated to enriching the lives of its boarders.

Blenheim is the Sixth Form co-educational house. The Hampton house is reserved for Senior and Sixth Form boys. Kew is a safe space for Junior, Senior and Year 8 boys. Meanwhile, the Osborne house hosts a never-ending slumber party for Junior, Senior and Sixth Form girls.

Here, students have a safe space to take a breather. They share any concerns they have with Ms. Rebecca Wilde — the school's Student Well-being and Child Protection Officer. They leave with more self-awareness each time and most importantly, the confidence to thrive within and outside the classroom.

Whether in the classroom, on the field, or around a dining table, an LVS Ascot experience is always positive. After all, that is its goal — for staff and students to actively engage in promoting a school-wide culture of positive emotional health and well-being. They achieve this aim every single day through open conversations and discussions on these topics.

The Well-being Hub is where it all happens, a space designed to provide a young person-centred and holistic approach to students’ mental health promotion and support. It has an open-door policy. Behind these doors, you’ll hear calming music, see walls painted in vibrant colours, and pick up the scents of various living plants.
