The field of healthcare is growing bigger and stronger everyday worldwide, as medical advances open the doors to solving more medical problems and addressing new challenges.
Medical professionals are often at the forefront of tackling global issues in healthcare, playing increasingly important roles in all aspects.
As universal healthcare issues become more widespread, such as air pollution caused by climate change, and the rise of cardiovascular problems and non-communicable diseases like cancer, there is an ever-greater need for healthcare professionals.
While doctors have always been high in demand, other healthcare departments like Nursing, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy are also burgeoning fields with plenty of job opportunities for those looking for fulfilling careers.
It’s also ideal for those looking to make a difference in people’s lives and become changemakers, as research becomes more intensive and focused in healthcare and medical sciences.
It all begins with a solid education, as universities today strive to deliver practice-based education and experiential learning to develop graduates that are ready to join the workforce as capable and independent employees.
Universities like Carol Davila University, the biggest and oldest university in Romania, are leading change in the medical sector by being innovative in their delivery of medical and healthcare education.

Over 37 clinical teaching hospitals are affiliated to the University, which provide several opportunities for the medical students to build their clinical skills, as well as to perform clinical research.
Rich history, outstanding education
Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, a public health sciences university, was originally founded in 1857, delivering over a century’s worth of outstanding and revolutionary medical education in Romania.
The university consists of four faculties: Faculty of General Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Dental Medicine and Faculty of Midwifery and Nursing.
The institution’s strong position and long-standing tradition in the higher education sector is cemented by the quality and experience of the faculty staff. Many of the university’s professors, former and present, are world-renowned scientists that have been recognized in the sector throughout history.
The professional expertise and quality shown by medical graduates from the university further strengthens its reputation.

Gabriel, a fifth-year student, said, “I wanted a high yield university, which I could be sure that it can create successful doctors. I knew there was a tight competition, but this was just another reason for my decision, as greater competition reveals a higher level of education. At the same time, the well-known prestige of the university and its teachers made me choose Carol Davila.”
Strategic location in a friendly city
The location in Bucharest makes it an attractive destination for international students, too. When students need to take a break, they can take a peaceful walk through the beautiful Cismigiu Park, located close to the Faculty of Dentistry, or enjoy coffee and cheesecake at The Coffee Factory.
They can also get involved in student societies, or partake in student activities such as the The National “Student Camps” Program, organised every year by the Ministry of Youth and Sports – Youth and Students Programs and Camps, which takes place at the seaside or in the mountains during summer holidays.
Stefano, a second-year student, said, “The best opportunity to make friends is to join a student society. You will get to know a lot of people and make new friends with whom you can share new ideas and passions.
“The projects, activities and group gatherings will have you spend time with a new family that will help you become a better doctor and a better person.”
Through exposure to a different environment with different cultures, medical graduates benefit from a global perspective in a diverse setting in beautiful Eastern Europe.
International students also receive support from a strong community that takes care of the well-being of all its students, no matter where they come from.
Alexa, a third-year student, said, “Help can be provided through many sources. As you already know, the first options are your family and friends. Most of the time, they are the providers of moral support and help.
“But, if you are in need, you shouldn’t hesitate to ask your teachers. They can help you with most of your school-related problems. Some students also consider seeking counseling in special centers.”
