Scholarships and support abound at HKBU School of Business

In Hong Kong, the doors to a dynamic business school are open to talents from all over the world. The School of Business at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is the only business school in Hong Kong, and among the world’s 1% of business schools, with triple accreditation by international accreditation bodies focused on business education (AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA). Just ask graduate Rico Birkmann from Germany. He first arrived at HKBU as an exchange student before realising he didn’t want to leave.

Thanks to the International Postgraduate Scholarships (IPS), he was able to fully immerse himself in the MSc in Applied Accounting and Finance (MScAAF) programme without financial worries.

“HKBU School of Business offers a broad range of events, preparing students for a successful job search, teaching us valuable life lessons, and connecting us with future employers,” he explains. “In addition, all courses were taught by passionate professors who really care about the success of students in their future careers. For prospective students who are seeking international exposure, a great student life, and a high-quality education — HKBU School of Business is the way to go.”

Today, Rico is a client services associate at AlphaSights’s Hong Kong office. Outcomes like his are exactly the kind that HKBU School of Business promises every aspiring business leader. The IPS is a merit-based award for international students, specifically designed to reward their excellence and make their journey all the more enjoyable. It comprises a full tuition fee waiver and a living allowance of approximately US$12,820. Details of IPS can be found here.

HKBU also offers a suite of programme-level scholarships for full-time applicants. The Diversity Contribution Scholarships offered by various taught postgraduate programmes — including the Master of Accountancy (MAcc), MSc in Applied Accounting & Finance (MScAAF), MSc in Business Management (MScBM) and MSc in Finance (FinTech and Financial Analytics) (MScFTFA) programmes — entail a full tuition fee waiver, typically awarded to entrants who could add cultural perspectives to their classroom and enhance the cohort’s diversity.

The HKBU Alumni Entrance Award is worth 8,000 Hong Kong dollars and reserved for the top two Master of Human Resources Management (MHRM) applicants with the highest cumulative GPA in their previous undergraduate study.

Apart from the Diversity Contribution Scholarships, MScAAF and MScFTFA students could be awarded the Entrance Scholarships or Young Talent Scholarships as well. These awards are reserved for students with outstanding academic backgrounds and public examination results, ranging from 5,000 to 80,000 Hong Kong dollars. The rest of HKBU School of Business’s programme-level financial aid offerings include: the MSc in Applied Economics (MScAEcon) and MSc in Data Analytics and Business Economics (MScDABE) Entrance Scholarships that are worth up to full tuition fee waiver for the most outstanding applicants, and the MSc in Entrepreneurship and Global Marketing (MScEGM) Admission Scholarships or Lifelong Learning Awards. A full list can be found here.

Once students are admitted by the School, HKBU School of Business’s Career Services Section steps in to nurture business students into future leaders in a global marketplace. Their efforts revolve around facilitating students to explore aspirations that match their personalities; equipping them with the skill sets needed to thrive in the area; providing them with international opportunities; and expanding their network of businesses and organisations to extend its presence to potential employers.
