Scholarships for Nigerians alleviate one of the top obstacles for students from developing countries seeking a UK degree: money. Now, the good news is the UK plans to recruit at least 600,000 international students per year by 2030. To do this, it will provide more accessible information to interested applicants, make it easier for international students to get jobs here, and provide more scholarships as well as financial aid.

Every year, the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission gives Nigerian students a chance to apply for Masters and PhD funding under different categories. This includes the Commonwealth Scholarship for Developing Countries, Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme, Commonwealth Split-site Scholarships, Commonwealth Professional Fellowships for Commonwealth Developing countries and Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships. The application deadline for most of these is till the end of July but it’s best to check each individual programme.
This award covers tuition and board for a one-year postgraduate programme in any discipline at a UK university. The deadline to apply this year is July 15.
Cambridge-Africa ALBORADA Research Fund 2021 for African researchers
This fund offers financial support to encourage research, training and engagement activities between Cambridge and Sub-Saharan Africa. Deadline falls on Sept. 3, 2021.
This award is one of the oldest and most prestigious scholarship programme in the world. It recognises outstanding young leaders who are tackling global challenges and promote international understanding and peace. The deadline to apply this year is August 2.
University of Dundee Scholarship for African students
Each recipient of this postgraduate scholarships receives up to 5,000 pounds a year (15,000 pounds in a three-year degree, 20,000 pounds in a four-year degree and 25,000 pounds in a five-year degree). Deadline falls on July 31, 2021.
Denys Holland Scholarship
If you have an offer from University College London, but not the funds required to study here, you can apply for this scholarship. It is worth 9,000 pounds per year for three years, subject to satisfactory academic progress and recipients demonstrating their intention to play a full part in the extracurricular activities of UCL and the Students Union.
Reckitt-LSHTM PhD studentships
The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is offering students from Sub-Saharan Africa fully-funded PhD studentships on research projects that address the links between hygiene and health in Sub-Saharan Africa. The deadline to apply is July 11, 2021.
