Wide range of courses

International students will be heartened to note that English proficiency is not required for admission to the institution. Instead, students have three options to meet their English standards before enrolment, including taking their English Proficiency Test (EPT) upon arrival; pre-place in English Classes; or by submitting their qualifying English test scores to the university.

Language proficiency aside, students can also choose from a wide range of undergraduate courses, including those that provide students with an opportunity to experience a genuine research environment. For instance, budding engineers can choose from a range of engineering-related programs under the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering, such as a BSc in Architectural Engineering, BSc in Biomedical Engineering and BSc in Chemical Engineering, among others.

Among their research areas include the area of nuclear reactor, which serves an educational facility for students and researchers alike, in addition to training students for new jobs in the growing nuclear engineering industry.

Trailblazers in agricultural education

K-State also boasts of strong agriculture programs offered under the College of Agriculture. Students have 16 undergraduate majors, 15 minors, five certificates and a general agriculture program to choose from.

The university is a leader in global food systems. In the course of 14 months, they’ve bagged four highly competitive grants totaling more than US$100 million from the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The grants establish and fund four Feed the Future Innovation Labs, a global collaboration among universities, industry and non-governmental organizations. The Labs focus on improving the resiliency and production of food crop plants, and preventing crop losses in key, grain-producing countries to end world hunger. This is done through a combination of research, education and outreach in target nations.

Meanwhile, students interested in studying the science and technology behind baked goods will benefit from the Bakery Science and Management course. Students will learn about the commercial baking industry and related areas upon taking courses in bakery and cereal science, milling, and flour and dough testing, in addition to developing and using skills in chemistry, math and microbiology in preparation for the challenges in the baking industry.

Studying at K-State Conversely, students interested in agronomy – the science and technology of soil, plants and the environment in the production of feed, food, fiber and fuel – can gain hands-on learning experiences in laboratory courses and class visits. K-State’s facilities, including its 400-acre Agronomy North Farm, make it ideal for students to conduct research and facilitate their learning process.

The polytechnic route

In partnership with the College of Agriculture, K-State’s Polytechnic campus, which is known for its world-class aviation program, specializes in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) research. This includes everything from building drones to using them to test drought levels. The campus is centrally located in Salina, Kansas.

Meanwhile, aspiring pilots can study under the Polytechnic’s award-winning professional pilot degree program. Here, students receive training beyond the minimum requirements stipulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), churning professional pilots who are confident to fly in all conditions, troubleshoot and solve problems, make ethical decisions and exceed the expectations of the aviation industry.

Delve into the study of health and human sciences

Those interested in the sciences can study at K-State’s College of Health and Human Sciences. Their undergraduate programs include a BS in Kinesiology and Dietetics, which acts as a stepping stone to enter graduate and professional schools in preparation for careers in exercise physiology, exercise behavioral science, physical therapy, pharmacy, medicine, dietetics, and related fields. There’s also the Hospitality Management Department, which is committed to preparing the next generation of hospitality leaders for a thriving career in the industry or academia.
