Tettenhall College: Picturesque surroundings, successful students

Location, location, location. Simply, achieving an excellent location for a boarding school can be a significant factor in your student’s experience. Considering a rural, peaceful location with acres of green fields but few local amenities? Thinking of a more city-based option, with good transport links but less of a countryside feel?

It is possible to get an excellent compromise between the two. Tettenhall College is based in the village of Tettenhall, in the heart of England. It is a beautiful, quintessentially English village within a few hours from central London with a lovely little high street offering cafes, salons, delicatessens and other local options.

Just outside the school’s 35-acre campus is a bank and other essential services — all just a minute’s walk away. Tettenhall is also home to two village greens, with the village backing onto miles of stunning Staffordshire and Shropshire countryside —- full of golf courses, country parks, and areas of natural beauty.

Yet just three miles away, either a ten-minute ride by taxi or bus, is the small but bustling city of Wolverhampton. Moreover, the metropolis that is Birmingham, the UK’s second city, is just 30 minutes away, offering world-class shopping, theatres, concert halls, and an international airport.

None of these perks would be complete without outstanding school facilities, comfortable boarding houses, or high-class athletics and arts provisions. Tettenhall College proudly boasts all of this and much more. Full boarding here is a fantastic, life-changing experience designed to form a well-rounded young person who is ready and equipped for the wider world.

Each day, students at the College are given the opportunity to explore, thrive and flourish once their studies are complete. Younger students are chaperoned throughout, while older students are given the freedom to spend time in the village as a small group — perhaps for coffee or a Friday evening meal.

With many delectable options, foodies are often spoiled for choice. Favourites across the region include Italian at Al Sorriso or Cataldos, tasty Chinese at Minhs of Tettenhall, or Monsoon’s tantalisingly spicy Indian dishes.

Families more concerned about a city’s cultural make-up find precisely what there’s looking for in Tettenhall as well. Tettenhall is located in the West Midlands of England and is one of the UK’s most culturally diverse and cosmopolitan areas. The day school community at Tettenhall College is a true reflection of this.

The school is currently home to 500 children from 25 different countries. Whilst 80% or more of students are British, this blend of heritage and cultural backgrounds creates an environment where students quickly feel at home and seamlessly settle into new friendships.

The boarding team is highly experienced at supporting this transition period, ensuring a strong connection is established with parents back home too. With such support and structure, students are proud to credit their educators for making them feel as through they have been at the school for longer than they really have.

Active weekends play a massive role and maintaining students’ smiles. Tettenhall College boasts many activities and opportunities to keep students engaged. For example, each term, students have the chance to be tourists and tag along for weekend outings and excursions. Recently, pupils have taken part in dragon boat racing, ice-skating rink, paintballing, laser shooting, visits to the seaside, theme parks, and various cultural hotspots.

They’ve even travelled to Oxford, London, Warwick, and Stratfor. Weekly boarders’ meetings are an excellent chance for students to put forward their ideas for forthcoming trips so that everyone has an opportunity to contribute to the programme.

Opportunities aside, academics are strong at Tettenhall College too — a fact backed by solid numbers. With A Level results at 58% A*-A and 85% A*-B, Tettenhall College certainly delivers, not least with 100% of last year’s cohort getting their first choice of university.

Pastoral care and a robust support system for learners of all ages have been essential to these outcomes, alongside quality activities, excellent boarding facilities, and a stellar location — not too big, not too small, a rural setting close to major cities, activity areas, and three international airports (Birmingham, Manchester and London Heathrow). Tettenhall College, an authentically British boarding school is delighted to offer these and more to its students.
