According to the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE), there was a 135% increase in the number of international students in Canada, from 2010 to 2020.

Many top Canadian universities offer a variety of scholarships for international students each year. Here are six scholarships that every international student should consider applying for in 2022:
Dalhousie University is ranked among the top 300 universities in the 2022 QS World University Rankings. They offer 18 scholarships that international students can apply for, be it for undergraduate, master’s or doctoral students. Here are some of their scholarships for international students:
- Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Deadline: September 30 — institutional deadline for Dalhousie applicants)
- John and Lena Graham Commonwealth Bursary (Deadline: March 15 and October 31 — two bursaries awarded per year)
University of Calgary
With 17 scholarships for international students, the University of Calgary offers a number of scholarships, some of which are automatic and do not require an application, while others require one. Here are some of their scholarships:

Université de Montréal
Next on the list of top Canadian universities with scholarships is the Université de Montréal. This university offers the UdeM Exemption Scholarship for International Students. This scholarship will help students worldwide attend one of the finest francophone research universities in the world.
There are awards for three programmes: undergraduate, masters and PhD; the amount of each award varies. The granting of scholarships continues for winter 2022, summer 2022, fall 2022 and winter 2023 terms, notes its website.
“You don’t have to apply for a UdeM Exemption Scholarship. New candidates’ files will be evaluated to determine their eligibility and the amount of their exemption scholarship. After receiving your admissions offer, the Université de Montréal will promptly inform you, by email, of the amount of the scholarship to which you are entitled,” notes the university.
University of Waterloo
The University of Waterloo offers over 140 Canadian scholarships for international students with a wide selection that ranges from course-specific to country-specific awards. Here are some of their scholarships worth exploring (no application is required for the following):
University of Saskatchewan Graduate Scholarship
If you want to pursue your postgraduate studies at the University of Saskatchewan, you can opt for this scholarship. Their PhD scholarships are valued at 20,000 Canadian dollars (tenable for up to 36 months) each; alternatively, their Master’s Thesis is valued at CA$16,000 (tenable for up to 24 months). The deadline to apply is Feb. 22, 2022.
Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED)
The Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) programme provides ASEAN students with short-term exchange opportunities for study or research in Canadian post-secondary institutions at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels. Do note that only Canadian institutions can submit applications on behalf of candidates. The deadline is March 3, 2022.
