Are you thinking of working in sports? Here’s the good news: The University of London (UOL) and the World Academy of Sports (WAoS) are collaborating to offer online scholarships (up to 25%) to pursue a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in International Sports Management.
The PGCert — designed by industry experts — is a globally-recognised qualification for undergraduates, PE teachers and those in sporting organisations looking to make quicker progress in their sports careers. It gives you a broader network of contacts and experience across many sports.
Consisting of six modules, the PGCert provides an in-depth knowledge of the international sports industry and an understanding of the implications of sports participation on health, community cohesion and social development.
The PGCert is a fully online, self-paced programme that students can complete between one and five years. Upon completion, students can further apply it to master’s programmes to take their studies to the next level.
UOL also notes that students can choose to study individual modules on a standalone basis without having to register for the programme.

UOL and WAoS: Two leading educational bodies collaborate to offer online scholarships
WAoS is a leading educational body that specialises in global sports and events. In 2020, it partnered with UOL to develop the PGCert programme as a way for students, sports managers, sports coaches and more to be ahead of the game and stand out in the professional crowd.
By partnering with UOL — one of the UK’s most diverse universities with 120,000 students studying in London and 50,000 students studying across 90 countries — WAoS offers students a great way to obtain a global qualification without having to travel overseas.
In 2021, Director of WAoS Chris Solly shared his views about the collaboration: “Local partnerships with communities and, most importantly, with youth are critical to the long-term growth and future success of the global sport and major events industry. We are therefore delighted that the University of London has agreed to work with WAoS to develop this important provision,” as quoted by Around The Rings.
Programme Director of the PGCert in International Sports Management Dr Oscar Mwaanga, explained that the collaboration allows for a rigorous programme derived from expert input and extensive knowledge of sports industry trends and insights. “WAoS brings extensive experience in training, education and facilitating sports development on a global scale, ensuring that the programme is enriched with cutting-edge, practice-based content and analysis,” said Dr Mwaanga.
