The tech way forward at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University

In 2020, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University changed its logo and identity — going from VGTU to VILNIUS TECH. Their mission, however, remains the same: to nurture responsible, creative and competitive graduates with keen insight on science, technology and culture.

According to rector Prof. Alfonsas Daniūnas, the university is aiming for further digitalisation of studies, as well as more focus on artificial intelligence, robotics and areas related to the jobs of the future. “We must look ahead to educate professionals for the job market of the future and focus on interdisciplinary studies,” shares Daniūnas. “We have established a strong international recognition, but our mission is to contribute to the further development and progress of Lithuania.”

The rebranding is rooted in the university’s main values and strategic goals. “Technology is the essence of our university: it’s our roots, the presence and the future,” explains Daniūnas. “We do have good competencies in architecture, creative industries and economics; nevertheless, our major driving force is technology, and that sets us apart from other universities. VILNIUS TECH expresses it the best.”

Established in 1956, VILNIUS TECH is one of the biggest research universities in the country, with strong emphasis on university-business cooperation. Its vision is to be recognised in Lithuania and beyond as a prestigious technical institute of higher education. Currently, VILNIUS TECH is ranked 38th in the QS Emerging Europe and Central Asia University Rankings 2021.

With the rebranding, rector Daniūnas believes a new wave of energy will boost the university’s drive and inspire them to greater ambitions. “The university, as any other organisation, is moving forward and our achievements in various areas are impressive; thus, our corporate identity must reflect who we truly are,” he shares.
