A North Carolina barber promised a 9-year-old customer free haircuts for life so long as he gets straight A’s.

Gaston County’s Mike Shelton told 9-year old Kam Kamarian that if he scored A’s across the board, he could come back to the shop anytime and receive a stylish trim completely free of charge.

“So I just said, “Look man, if you bring back your report card in a couple of months and if you got straight A’s, I’ll cut your hair,”” said Mike.

But a few weeks later when Kam strolled in and presented his report card, Mike got much more than just a pleasant surprise.

“I didn’t realise what it was at first,” he said. “He handed it to me and I looked at it and it was straight A’s, and so he said, “I’m here to collect my free haircuts.” That’s my man right there.”

After working so hard at school, 9-year-old Kam couldn’t believe his luck in finding North Carolina’s most friendly and encouraging barber. “It means a lot,” said Kam, demonstrating how Mike’s support had really spurred him on.

“If we all just did a little something for somebody else, it’ll go a long way,” said Mike.

The barber’s generosity caused quite a storm of social media, with many congratulating him not just for providing a great incentive, but for teaching the young man a valuable lesson in life.

“The thing I like most about this is a kid wanted something, the barber made him a bargain and the kid worked hard and EARNED it,” noted one contributor. “That more than anything, that lesson will take him further than just getting a free haircut. Great job for the barber to give both his time and wisdom. And congrats to the kid for his hard earned haircuts.”
