What sets ISS International School, Singapore apart is the “kampong spirit” that binds the school community together. “Kampong” means village in Malay, the country’s national language, and often romanticised as verdant, idyllic, and tight-knit.

At ISS International School, Singapore, that feeling of togetherness and respect creates the perfect environment for students to grow, learn, and evolve. “It's a feeling. It's where you feel safe, where you belong, and where you're surrounded by people who care about you.” says Ashley[1] , a Grade 11 student. “For me, that place is right here at ISS International School. It's been my home for the past five years, and it's a place I hold close to my heart. This is my kampong.”

From Kindergarten to Grade 12, ISS fosters a strong sense of community throughout the entire student body. It evokes a powerful sentiment even from the youngest students. For instance, when asked what “kampong spirit” means to her, Grade 4 student Sienna [2] says that it is about understanding and knowing that doing good for others means that good things will come back to you. For Vivian[3] , Grade 5 student, it's a bond that unites everyone.

“We are more than just students and teachers,” she says. “We learn, grow, and celebrate together.”

The ISS HSD programme can be just as transformative for your child. Sebastian[5] , Grade 12 HSD student, found his experience to be as such, noting a marked improvement in his communication skills. The challenges helped him develop his problem-solving prowess and critical thinking skills, too.

The school gives keen attention to each student. “Unlike many other schools, ISS teachers not only know every student by name but are also well-acquainted with their individual interests,” adds Nicolas[4] , Grade 9 student.

With intentionally maintained small class sizes, ISS empowers your child by encouraging them to customise their learning journey in a safe and inclusive environment. This research-backed method of education has had fruitful results. The IB class of 2023 scored above global averages in seven IB subjects, 90% of IB students achieved bilingual diplomas, and 100% of High School Diploma (HSD) students achieved a pass rate and university acceptance. ISS also has a robust English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme, which guides students with low WIDA scores to success in the IBDP and HSD exams. WIDA refers to an assessment tool used by teachers to measure the English language proficiency of students who have recently arrived in Singapore.

“The journey thus far has been a confidence booster like no other, and the curriculum offers a roadmap to success beyond the classroom,” says Sebastian. “I feel assured and well-prepared. This isn't just a programme; it is my guiding compass, equipping me to navigate and conquer the challenges of the real world ahead.”

ISS students go to some of the best universities in the world when they graduate. This includes King’s College London, University of California, Berkeley, New York University, Purdue University, Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne (EHL), and the University of Melbourne. Your child will walk away from their ISS schooling purposefully, guided by the goal of making a difference. “While I understand the significance and appeal of aspiring for top universities, it’s also crucial that the course you intend to pursue resonates with who you are,” says Clara Hong, Class Of 2023 graduate.

For Clara and many of her fellow graduates, ISS was the ideal school to come out of their shells and explore their interests. Hong used to be reserved, but she feels the school's inclusive environment was the bedrock of her growth. Participating in Model United Nations helped her build leadership skills and unearthed her knack for debate.

Today, Hong is more outspoken and confident. “The teachers at ISS gave me more than just an education,” she says. “From preparing revision schedules to helping with administrative matters, they made sure that each and every student was cared for, limiting stress levels to a healthy amount necessary for us students to focus and excel.”

“Avoid comparing yourself to others; instead, measure your progress against your past achievements and take a moment to visualise your future self. Stay true to yourself and your passions in life.”

ISS teachers and staff play big roles in guiding each child to their full potential. For Class of 2016 graduate Caitlyn Parish, Mr. Urs Jungo was that pillar of support she leaned on. “If not for Mr. Jungo's guidance, I wouldn't have discovered my passion to continue studying psychology,” she says about her IB Coordinator. “The school's values and IB principles advanced my growth mindset and strengthened my people skills.”

Above all, Caitlyn is happy and helping others has become the driving force in her life. “The welcoming nature of the school community gave me joy just to be in school every single day,” she adds. “So, thank you, ISS.
